The developers of Baldur’s Gate 3 recently revealed a stop-gap measure to address memory issues on Xbox Series X/S consoles. This temporary solution enables players to preserve their saved game progress.
The Xbox Series X/S aficionados had a delayed chance to play Baldur’s Gate 3. While their counterparts on PC and PS5 systems had the luxury of enjoying the game during the summer, the announcement of the game's availability on Xbox came after The Game Awards. The game debuted on Xbox in December 2023.
Regrettably, the rollout of Baldur’s Gate 3 for Xbox Series X/S was not smooth sailing. Xbox owners witnessed save data issues after installing the game. An alarming number of fans shared instances of their game save data getting deleted. This is a huge cause for concern for a game that commands over 100 hours of game time for a solitary playthrough.
As the year-end holiday season concluded, no remedy for the save issues on Xbox Series X/S was in sight. Subsequently, the game's developer, Larian Studios, proposed its own solution. Implementing this fix might be a bit fiddly.
Fixing Save Issues on Xbox Series X/SAddressing the continuous save issues encountered on Xbox Series X/S, Larian Studios released a post on their official channel. They suggested the workaround of activating the in-game cross-platform saves to bypass this problem.
In order to implement this, players would need to create an account on the Larian website. Next, after launching Baldur’s Gate 3, they should navigate to the Options setting from the main menu. From there, proceed to the Gameplay tab and activate the 'cross-saves' option. The final step is to link the player's Larian account with their Xbox account.
Once these steps are successfully executed, the most recent five saves will be automatically uploaded to the cloud on Larian's servers. Should the save data issue recur, players will have to reactivate the cross-save functionality in Baldur’s Gate 3 in order to retrieve the latest saved game data.
Is there Light at the end of the Tunnel?Acknowledging the annoying nature of this workaround, it does offer a way out of the shroud of save data deletion. As a sprawling game with challenging boss levels, Baldur's Gate 3 fans would understandably welcome any measure to preserve their saved game data. At least, until a permanent solution is found.
The timeline for rectifying Baldur's Gate 3's save glitches on Xbox is unclear. However, Larian Studios assert their belief in finding a quick fix. Until then, fans may have to grudgingly count on Larian's cloud servers for their save file. They can only hope that their game data does not meet the same fate as it did in the initial stages.
