A Baldur’s Gate 3 player recently encountered a surprising turn of events while attempting to discard a crucial item in Act 3 of the game. The player, known as BOB_BestOfBugs on YouTube, found out that Larian Studios had implemented a failsafe mechanism to prevent players from permanently losing one of Act 3's most vital key items.
The Importance of Netherstones
In Baldur’s Gate 3, players are tasked with collecting three Netherstones to aid them in defeating The Absolute, who is revealed to be the Elder Brain. While the game prevents players from directly throwing away Netherstones, the player realized that they could place the item in a container and discard the container instead.
An Unexpected Cutscene
As soon as the container with the Netherstone was thrown into an abyss, a cutscene triggered. The player encountered The Emperor, who berated them for their foolishness and reminded them that the three stones are their only hope against the Elder Brain. To make matters worse, the Elder Brain appeared and transformed the player into a mind flayer, resulting in an unavoidable game over screen that read, "A Netherstone is lost. The only path now leads to her..." The player was given the option to load a previous save and try again.
